The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is a separate state system, not the Currituck County Detention Center. It can help only when a person is in state prison, probation, or parole rather than ordinary local pretrial custody.
No CCSO Booking App
There is no dedicated official CCSO app for inmate searches or booking photos. Currituck Alert handles emergency and public-safety notifications instead. It won't show you a booking roster. NC SAVAN, working through VINELink, is the statewide fallback for custody notifications. That service has its own eligibility limits and no promise of photos.
Keep a Currituck Source Trail
Every fact in a lookup deserves its own source. Write down the URL, the source type, the date you checked it, the booking or arrest date, the arresting agency, the detention destination, and the court case number as separate items. A guess should never fill an empty field. A news story might give you a charge and bond, while CCSO holds the booking sheet and the court holds what happened later. A third-party site can even reuse an old photo under a fresh-looking timestamp, which is why the trail matters more than any single page.
Currituck's geography makes this habit doubly useful. An incident in Corolla, Moyock, Grandy, or Knotts Island might involve CCSO, a state agency, a neighboring county, Virginia Beach, the SBI, or a federal partner. The community name helps you find a story. It does not tell you who made the arrest or where the person is held. Keeping those as separate fields shows exactly what is known and what still needs confirmation.
When an official source can't be reached, call the result "not verified" instead of "none." A detention page without a roster doesn't prove CCSO keeps no internal records. A quiet social channel doesn't prove no booking happened. That small distinction keeps your Currituck arrest search honest instead of turning a gap into a claim about the county.
Currituck County Busted Mugshots
A mugshot is simply the photograph taken during booking. Around it, a booking record may list a name, a booking number, the intake date, the arresting agency, the charges as recorded at that moment, bond details, court information, and where the person is being held.
Currituck has no city police feed, so the countywide system is what counts. The Currituck County Sheriff's Office, under Sheriff Matthew W. Beickert, handles patrol, investigations, narcotics, marine and beach patrols, school resource, civil matters, and detention. The official Sheriff's Office page lays out that full range of duties. The Currituck County Detention Center serves as the main local holding facility. No verified public roster appears on its page, though.
What a Currituck Booking Record Shows
Think of a Currituck booking record as fields gathered at different moments. It is not a court docket. The arrest location may not match where someone ends up held. A later transfer can even make a current custody search look nothing like the original report.
| Field | What it can tell you |
|---|---|
| Identity | Legal name and, where lawfully available, an identifier such as date of birth. Do not treat a name-only match as proof of identity. |
| Booking number and date | The intake event and the time window in which the detention record was created. |
| Arresting agency | CCSO, a state agency, another county, Virginia Beach, or a federal partner. It matters because the arresting agency may hold the report. |
| Charges as booked | Initial charges. They can change and must be checked against the court case. |
| Bond | The booking or court record’s bond field, if supplied. No public Currituck bond schedule was verified. |
| Photo | A booking identification photograph, if made and releasable. North Carolina law does not create an automatic online gallery. |
| Facility and release | Where the person was held, transferred, bonded out, or released. A person may leave the live jail view while the historical record remains with the custodian. |
Request a Currituck Booking Photo
Currituck publishes no booking-photo request form and no county-specific photo policy. The practical route is a narrow written request. Aim it at the CCSO records or administrative function. Administrative staff, per the Sheriff's Division, provide copies of reports and related submissions. Ask for an electronic copy. Name the exact event. And request a fee estimate before any special-charge work begins.
- Name the person and include a date of birth or approximate age if known, the arrest or booking date range, case, booking, or warrant number if available, and the arresting agency.
- Request the booking record, arrest-information fields, booking photograph, booking and release dates, charge list, and bond field. Ask for all reasonably segregable public portions.
- Ask the custodian to identify the specific statutory basis for any withholding or redaction. Do not state a purpose. North Carolina public-record access cannot be conditioned on your motive.
- Request native electronic delivery and a current fee estimate. Keep the request, response, and any file together with the source date.
Request wording: Pursuant to North Carolina public-records law, please provide an electronic copy of the booking record and booking photograph for [full name], associated with the [date/date range] arrest or booking by the Currituck County Sheriff's Office. If any item is withheld or redacted, please identify the specific statutory basis and provide all reasonably segregable public portions. Please advise of any copying, media, or special-service charge before incurring it.
The county's posted fee examples run $0.10 for a single-sided black-and-white page, $0.15 for duplex, $0.25 for color, and $1.00 for a certified copy. None of those figures settles what a digital photo would cost. Under G.S. 132-6 and G.S. 132-6.2, copies may carry actual costs or a special service charge, and the county has no obligation to build a new database for your request.
North Carolina Mugshot Access Law
North Carolina law sets the frame. G.S. 15A-502 lets officers photograph and fingerprint people charged with certain felonies and misdemeanors at arrest or commitment, though juveniles fall under special rules. G.S. 132-1 sketches what counts as a public record, photos and electronic files included. G.S. 132-1.4 then shields criminal-investigative records while opening up certain arrest details. Put together, the statutes point to a records custodian's access analysis rather than a guarantee that every booking photo lands online.
No stand-alone mugshot publication law exists in the enacted statutes. Bills proposed in 2025 sat in committee, so they are not current law. Juvenile material, sealed or expunged files, investigative notes, victim data, medical details, Social Security numbers, and driver-license information have no place on a public page.
A charge may later qualify for expunction, which is a court petition filed with the clerk in the county of the charge or conviction. Expunction cleans up official records. It does not wipe private copies. Fix an error by asking CCSO or the holding custodian first, then approach the private publisher under its own correction policy. Never pay a middleman to alter an official record. Google's Refresh Outdated Content tool only updates a search result once the live source has changed or vanished.
How to Find Currituck County Busted Mugshots
No verified county roster or daily feed exists here. So match the source to your actual question. A person just booked, a person released, a state prisoner, and a federal detainee can each sit in a different system entirely.
- Start with the official detention page and call the detention contact at 252-453-3633 for a lawful, current custody question. Verify the address and visitation rules before traveling.
- Check the CCSO Facebook page for selected announcements. It is an official social channel, not a complete booking database, and posts may be event-driven or unavailable later.
- Use NC SAVAN/VINELink for eligible custody notifications. It is free and anonymous, but it has exclusions and does not guarantee a mugshot.
- Search North Carolina eCourts and the Currituck Clerk of Court for case events and disposition. A docket is not a booking photograph and a pending charge is not guilt.
- For a named photo or historic booking record, send the precise CCSO request above. If the arresting agency was elsewhere, request from that agency too.
- If the person was sentenced into state custody, use the NCDAC Offender Public Information Search. It does not replace a county-jail source.
Where Currituck Busted Mugshots Appear
Start with official sources. A third-party page might serve as a lead. Its existence, its age, or its disclaimer never makes it the county's roster. Note: this site does not host or rehost booking photos.
| Channel | Photo? | Official? | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Currituck Detention Center | Not verified | Yes | Facility information and contact path; no public roster or photo index was found. |
| CCSO Facebook | Selected posts may show agency material | Yes | Review announcements; do not treat the page as complete or continuously searchable. |
| CCSO records request | Ask for a specific photo | Yes | Give the person, date, agency, and identifiers; request electronic delivery and a fee estimate. |
| NC SAVAN/VINELink | No guarantee | Yes | Custody notifications for eligible records, not a photo library. |
| NCDAC search | State offender photo may be available | Yes | Use for state prison, probation, parole, and historic state data, not ordinary local pretrial custody. |
| Outer Banks Voice | Sometimes an agency-supplied image | No, local news | Read the article date, arresting agency, jail destination, and charge wording. |
| Busted Newspaper | Yes, publisher-controlled | No | Historical lead only. The reviewed county page was mainly 2017–2018 and may be stale. |
| Mugshots.com or JailExchange | Publisher policy varies | No | Secondary leads only. Verify with CCSO and the court; do not use as current official custody proof. |
The Detention Center page describes the facility itself. It offers no gallery of mugshots. That scope tells you what the county actually publishes.

The missing search form is the real finding. "No verified public roster or feed" means one thing. It does not mean bookings never happen. It does not mean no photograph exists either.
Busted and Booked, Without a Public Roster
The county's own pages expose no name search. No booking-number lookup. No mugshot index, no daily PDF, CSV, API, RSS feed, or fixed 24-hour through weekly booking view. What the detention page covers instead is housing, court transport, bond-contact information, and visitation. Nowhere does it promise that every intake gets published.
Resist the urge to fill that gap with a third-party roster claim. The Busted Newspaper county page carried old records despite its long pagination. JailExchange's facility page is privately operated, and it warns that photos may be unavailable or that policy may change. Someone released can drop out of any live custody view while the booking record stays with CCSO. A transfer may also land a person in a final facility outside Currituck.
Juvenile boundary: one 2025 SWAT report sent an adult to Currituck Detention Center while a 17-year-old went to Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention. Juvenile records and photographs never belong on an adult mugshot page.
When Does a Currituck Booking Appear?
CCSO's own material shows the process plainly. Deputies process suspects, take fingerprints and photographs, collect personal data, and book prisoners into the county jail. No booking-time estimate is published anywhere. So skip the promises that a fresh arrest shows up after 30, 60, or 90 minutes. Timing is simply not published. A social media announcement may follow its own schedule rather than the intake clock.
Geography complicates things too. A beach, marine, or northern-county incident might involve state police, a neighboring county, Virginia Beach, the State Bureau of Investigation, or a federal agency. Keep the arresting agency and the holding facility as two separate fields. An arrest in Currituck County does not guarantee a Currituck booking photograph.
Bond and Detention Transport Details
Bond-contact information and transport to court or other facilities are spelled out on the detention page. That makes the detention center the right stop for a current custody question. No public bond schedule or release cadence has been verified. A bond figure quoted in a news story can go stale after a first appearance, a modification, a transfer, or a release.
For current lawful custody information, call the official detention number. Use the courthouse or eCourts for case events. Never wire money because a caller claims to be CCSO. The Sheriff's scam notice is blunt. The office will not demand Bitcoin, gift cards, wire transfers, or electronic payment to stop an arrest. Verify through 252-453-8204 or the detention contact. Call 911 for immediate danger.
Currituck Arrest Activity in Context
The Spring 2026 county newsletter counted more than 66,000 calls for service in 2025. Over 900 led to an arrest or warrant. The year also brought slightly more than 100 felony drug cases and just over 200 DWI calls. These are activity measures, not booking totals. One call can end with no arrest, one arrest, several people, or a warrant event. That means the numbers cannot be converted into a mugshot count.
The Sheriff's Division page is the official records and communications path. It works as a directory, not a roster. Quote the activity figures with the source link and the newsletter date attached.

The sheriff patrols the whole county. That is why place names like Corolla, Moyock, and Knotts Island show up in arrest stories even when CCSO, not a city police department, made the bust.
Booked, Released, Sentenced, or Federal
| Custody state | Best source and limitation |
|---|---|
| Just booked locally | Ask the detention center and CCSO. No public official roster/feed was verified. |
| Released or bonded | The person may drop out of a current custody view; request the historical booking record and check eCourts. |
| State prison, probation, or parole | Search NCDAC by name or offender ID. NCDAC covers state custody, not ordinary county-jail bookings. |
| Federal custody | Use the BOP locator. It has no public mugshot field. |
| ICE custody | Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator or DRIL at 1-888-351-4024. It does not provide booking photos and children under 18 are not searchable. |
A regional report counted two ICE arrests in Currituck during the period it covers. That number says nothing more. It does not prove the county holds an ICE contract or runs a local photo source. Keep the federal systems straight: BOP, ICE, and the U.S. Marshals Service each operate separately.
After the Bust: Currituck Court Records
North Carolina eCourts runs on Odyssey statewide. The official court site reports all 100 counties were on it by October 13, 2025. Pull up the Currituck location and search by party or case details, then line up the date, charge, and identifiers against the arrest source you started from. Smart Search can display a case summary, register of actions, parties, events, hearings, financial information, and dispositions. Treat the public portal as docket access only. It is not the official court file.
Outcomes vary. "Dismissed," "not guilty," "continued," "convicted," "expunged," and "no matching case" all mean different things. Follow the disposition. Do not treat the first charge as the final result.
Older Photos and Currituck Archives
Why is an older booking photo so hard to find? North Carolina State Archives schedules offer one answer. Under the 2021 program schedule, an identification photograph tied to a felony or misdemeanor case follows the case-file disposition. If it sits outside a case file, an office may destroy it after three years. Detention rosters, commitment reports, and release reports follow their own case-file or reference-value rules. None of this proves a particular Currituck image was destroyed.
For real historical digging, try two sources. The Outer Banks History Center serves Currituck and its coastal neighbors. The Currituck microfilm collection holds older court material from 1761–1977. Neither is a modern mugshot repository, but both reward patient research.
Busted Mugshots by Currituck Place
Currituck County has no incorporated cities or towns at all. The place pages here draw on the county seat plus the two largest sourced Census-designated places. None of them is a municipal police page. All three run through the same countywide CCSO and Detention Center path.
- Currituck Busted Mugshots, the unincorporated county seat.
- Moyock Busted Mugshots, an unincorporated CDP with a 2020 Census population of 5,154.
- Grandy Busted Mugshots, an unincorporated CDP with a 2020 Census population of 2,776.
Corolla, Carova, Knotts Island, Barco, Maple, Shawboro, Shiloh, Sligo, and Waterlily still matter as search locations. They just do not appear as separate city pages in the resolved map.
